Van Lal Lian

Van Lal Lian is a Data Scientist at Boeing and a Burmese American community leader and advocate for democracy and peace in Myanmar (Burma). He earned his Master’s degree in Analytics from the University of Southern California and is a recipient of the Gates Millennium Scholarship.

Originally from Chin State, Burma, Van came to the United States as a refugee in 2010 after being displaced by conflict at a young age. Since then, he has been actively involved in leadership and advocacy efforts supporting refugee and immigrant communities.

Van previously served as President of the Chin Youth Organization of North America, helping expand one of the largest Burmese youth networks in North America, with 25 local chapters across the United States and Canada. During his leadership, he helped strengthen the organization’s national presence, including securing its first major grant funding and establishing its first office.

In addition to his professional and community leadership work, Van has represented communities affected by the crisis in Burma at the United Nations Human Rights Council, advocating for human rights, refugee protection, and democratic values. He remains committed to supporting efforts toward peace, federal democracy, and a more just future for the people of Burma.
