Dr Sasa

Dr Sasa is a physician, humanitarian, democracy advocate, and Founder of the Institute of Peace and Federal Democracy (IPFD).

Born in Chin State, Myanmar, Dr Sasa grew up in a remote community marked by poverty, isolation, and limited access to education, healthcare, and public services. His early life was shaped by hardship, faith, and a commitment to serving communities affected by conflict and neglect.

After qualifying as a medical doctor, Dr Sasa returned to serve some of Myanmar’s most underserved communities, particularly in Chin State and other remote ethnic regions. He founded Health & Hope, a humanitarian and community development organisation focused on healthcare, education, leadership development, and practical support for vulnerable communities. Through this work, he gained international recognition, including the support of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, now His Majesty King Charles III.

Over many years, Dr Sasa became known as a bridge-builder across Myanmar’s diverse ethnic, religious, and political communities. His work has focused on practical service, local leadership, community resilience, and the belief that lasting peace must be rooted in dignity, accountability, and cooperation.

Following Myanmar’s democratic opening, Dr Sasa was invited to enter public service as a Minister after the November 2020 General Election. When the military seized power on 1 February 2021 and overturned the election results, he joined the democratic movement resisting military rule and was appointed as Myanmar’s envoy to the United Nations, as well as the National Unity Government’s Union Minister for International Cooperation and spokesperson.

Since then, Dr Sasa has become one of Myanmar’s most recognised international advocates, engaging governments, parliaments, international organisations, faith communities, civil society networks, and diaspora groups in support of democracy, human rights, humanitarian assistance, and a peaceful federal future for Myanmar.

At IPFD, Dr Sasa provides strategic leadership for work focused on peace, federal democracy, dialogue, coordination, and international engagement. He is widely regarded as one of Myanmar’s trusted national figures, with a long-standing commitment to unity, justice, reconciliation, and a federal democratic future for all the peoples of Myanmar.
