Peter Thawnghmung

Peter Thawnghmung is a Burmese-American entrepreneur and community leader based in Indianapolis, Indiana, known for his dedication to business development and immigrant advocacy. He has earned widespread recognition for his leadership within the Burmese diaspora, serving as President and Board Director of the non-profit Chin Community of Indiana (CCI), which supports more than 35,000 Burmese immigrants.

Originally from Chin State, Myanmar (Burma), Peter immigrated to the United States in 1980 and later attended the University of Michigan. He built a successful career spanning more than 25 years in the food industry, holding leadership roles in product development, operations, and supply chain management at major corporations including Kellogg, Colgate, and Nestlé.

An accomplished entrepreneur, Peter founded and managed several businesses in the retail, automotive, and construction sectors. In 2012, he launched Freedom Car Sales in Indianapolis, later expanding operations to Ohio, with a mission to increase transportation access for underserved communities. In 2017, he also established a construction company. In 2022 he exited his businesses to become CEO of Yo-Health Inc., a food and beverage company focused on culturally inspired, health-conscious brands such as Yoshi and Sun & Moon Yogurt.

In addition to his business achievements, Peter remains deeply involved in civic and community leadership. As President of the Chin Community of Indiana and a board member of the Burmese Community of North America, he actively supports immigrant and refugee communities through initiatives focused on financial literacy, mentorship, domestic violence intervention, and community advocacy.

Peter is committed to fostering peace, democracy, and stronger international support for Burma.
